When it comes to our health and fitness, we’re understandably deeply invested. After all, this is a question of our own mortality, so the stakes are high. Poor health leads to a shorter life expectancy, as well as a lower quality of life, so it behooves us to take the necessary steps to lead a healthier and happier life. However, this is easier said than done.

The world seems to be designed from the ground up to keep your unhealthy, and that’s because it is, at least by accident. The modern world of convenience is killing us with kindness so to speak, so it can be difficult to see threats to your health, and you can’t fight what you can’t see. Therefore, it can be helpful to have a little help regarding your endeavor to improve your health. Here are a few tips to help you get started, and don’t worry, you won’t need anything you can’t buy at Kohl’s.

First and foremost, you need to reform your diet. The American diet is utterly saturated with processed foods, and that’s a problem. These convenient food items earn their convenience with the help of additives like sugar and sodium that make these items cheaper to produce and last longer on store shelves and in your home but utterly lack nutritional value. Therefore, you should replace these items with fresh ingredients and start cooking your own meals as often as possible. Not only is this healthier, but it can save you a lot of money, depending on the products in question. You’ll see both immediate and long term benefits from this change, and your body will thank you.

Next, you’re going to need to start exercising. See, the world we live in has us sitting an awful lot. The “best” jobs are desk jobs that have you sitting for a little under 8 hours, and then you come home to watch TV and keep on sitting. These luxurious circumstances weaken core muscles that would normally be working hard to keep us upright, which can cause hernias, back aches, and more. So, you need to simply get up and go for a walk every once in awhile to curb the damage being done by all of the sitting. Since these same circumstances can cause or exacerbate depression, and be going for a stroll can alleviate it, there’s every reason to go for a walk once in awhile.
